Straight to the recipe, just the way you like it. I’ve been making this delicious cake for years, You’ll love it.
Ingredients for the cake:
- 2 C Sugar
- 2 C Flour
- 1 C Butter
- 1 C Boiling Water
- 1/2 Milk
- 4 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 2 Large Eggs, Beaten
Ingredients for the icing:
- 14 Tbsp Butter (1 & 3/4 sticks)
- 6 Tbsp Milk
- 4 & 1/2 Cocoa Powder
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 lb powdered sugar, sifted (start with a little less and decide what you want for your consistency.)
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Mix the flour, sugar, salt and baking soda together and set aside. In a separate bowl, stir together milk, beaten eggs, vanilla and set aside.
In a sauce pan, melt the butter and stir in the cocoa. Then add in the boiling water and let it sit for about 25 seconds before taking it off the heat. Now pour that into the flour mixture and stir. Then slowly add the milk mixture into the flour/cocoa/butter mixture and stir and then pour it into a lightly greased 9×13 pan. I bake mine for about 25 minutes at high altitude above 6000ft. I would check yours to see if it’s done by inserting a toothpick or knife into the middle and if the toothpick or knife comes out clean, it’s done.
Icing: Once the cake is finished baking, melt butter in a sauce pan and then add the cocoa, milk and bring to a boil. Stir often. Stir in the vanilla and then the sifted confectioners sugar with a spoon. Sifting makes for a smooth icing. Pour the frosting over the warm cake. I like to eat mine warm, but it’s good after it’s cooled too!
Enjoy!
